All things related to the Sony Playstation platforms

Will be more interesting in a few weeks. For the next week lots of PS4, then once the Xbox One ships a week from Friday, lots of Xbox One and comparisons between the two. The Xbox One ships globally a week from Friday, whereas the PS4 is only in the US this week, so another week or two out (29th I think?) and the PS4 will go global as well. That's when I think things will be most interesting in terms of how the two do outside of just the US market.

Personally, I think the bits I've seen of PS4 dashboard look like rip-offs of the Modern design used by Windows Phone/Windows 8/Xbox, but not quite as refined. There's a few exclusive PS games coming, but none that really excite me yet. Cross-platform next gen games so far are reviewed about the same on the consoles, maybe a bit of give here or there in either direction. For example, CoD runs at a higher resolution on PS4, but reviewers have noted it looks almost identical on Xbox One and it suffers framerate drops on the PS4 unlike the Xbox One, so in the end the Xbox One version edged out the PS4 version. Then there's just all the other stuff the Xbox One can do that the PS4 doesn't.

From a pure gamers standpoint I think it depends on if there's any exclusives you really want, or which you think will be the better gaming experience. For me, that means Xbox due to achievements and some exclusives I am excited about seeing come. I'll have to toy around with the other things it can do around TV, Skype, etc.

Launch lineup to me isn't very exciting. I know it never really is but in the past I just seemed more excited about system launches for the system itself. Might be due to getting older as well as having a wife and kid now. I also have so many games I still want to play for my older systems. If they would have made the new systems backwards compatible it would be a no doubt buy for me day one. I also want to see how the systems "hold Up" over longer times because of possible problems that all new things seem to have. I eventually would like to have all the systems(Wii U, Vita and DS XL included) but when more exciting games are out there. Who knows, I may break down and buy one of them earlier though.

True, I don't think there are any huge launch titles for either of the consoles. That said, over the next 6 months, i'm more excited to see something like Titanfall and the next Halo than anything Sony has announced. When they have a few next gen Uncharted or something similar it would be more tempting

I read about that a bit earlier. They said it is a very small number, but it wasn't exactly clear if they were talking in comparison to the number in the wild early, or in comparison to the number shipped that people would start getting tonight. I'm sure no matter what with any new product there's going to be duds rolling off the line, I guess the big question is how many...

We'll see how things go over the next few days and how they do in the wild.

Well I stood in line for 2 hours at the local Walmart, was number 13 and they only had 10 to sell. Pissed me off. Then I go home, check Amazon, they have some available. By the time I think about it for a minute, add to cart, they are gone. Priceless!!!

Ugh, I know your pain. I had this happen a few times on everything I tried to get on Black Friday last year.
I do have a little story on the original Xbox launch. At midnight, after Walmart in town already had all units taken for with people lined up with tickets, I decided to see if K-mart the following morning would have any luck (they were very inconsistent on the console launches). I went when they opened at 8am in the morning, and there was only me and another person in line, which happened to be my friend. So we both go in and ask about the Xbox, and the lady said they only had one total sent to them. She had me guess to pick from which hand she put a ticket in. I got it right and went home with the Xbox feeling proud.

I thought you were going to be smarter for this console generation...

I fondly remember coming home from classes and see you with the box in your room. I was like really?!?! Good times. I also remember when you went to try and get the PS2 but that was very limited. I forgot if there were any other we tried to get or not. I know I went and tried for the 360 at launch but no go there. Only systems I got at launch were the PSP and the Nintendo DS.

LOL, he's a lost cause to get him to convert to the BOX. I want all systems like I said but I sort of want the ONE more right now. Hey, I am a Microsoft guy.

I couldn't justify losing MLB The Show, even for Forza. MLB 2K is not even comparable.
Can't disagree with you about that. The Show is top quality and worth it. I want to go to walmart and see if they still have any but I am pretty sure they have none despite the online saying they are in stock.

Good luck if you go, you never know what you might find!

Meh, I don't know. I want to but know I will be disappointed and besides I would rather wait until better games and more reviews and possible problems worked out.

Saw something last night that at least one of the problems was either the included HDMI cable or a defect with the HDMI ports in the PS4 unit that could be remedied by pushing down a metal piece that was out of alignment. Though it sounded like if it is the latter and you tried to plug in an HDMI without checking it would wreck the cable.
