Have you ever noticed that sometimes you find yourself looking at your phone screen just because? Or just maybe have noticed all the people that just hang out on the phone all the time? What if it was because the Hertz rate was making you feel attracted or pulled into looking at them all the time? A form of brainwashing. Yes it is very real.

Computer monotors and TV monitors can be made to emit weak low-frequency electromagnetic fields merely by pulsing the intensity of displayed images. Experiments have shown that the ½ Hz sensory resonance can be excited in this manner in a subject near the monitor. The 2.4 Hz sensory resonance can also be excited in this fashion. Hence, a TV monitor or computer monitor can be used to manipulate the nervous system of nearby people.
2.4hz is interesting when you consider that 2.4ghz wifi is pretty much ubiquitous.

I keep thinking back to this thread when I see everyone nowadays. I really think there is something to this. Am I the only one that hasn't fallen prey to this?

It's an interesting theory, but I think people are naturally addicted to checking for messages since it's so instant. Just like how people love checking for their mailbox or other communications (notes, etc..), though these are not as often and people have a learned response of only checking at certain times of day. With instant messaging, it's always available with texting and smart phones.

So your saying that it's the addiction to more of the social aspect than the hardware portion of it?

Yes, from a certain standpoint, it's from habit, or classical conditioning (Pavlov dog experiment - read below). We become addicted by nature, and today's cell phones provide that. Also, there was a theory I read a few years ago on how some people check their phone out when they feel nervous from sort of social phobia when others approach as it makes them look busy and have an excuse not to interact. Even extroverts do this if they want to ignore others and act like they are busy with something else. It releases the tension of social awkwardness or having to deal with others.Look at Pavlov's dog experiment, a very simple method of it's kind. Ring the bell, show dog food, dog salivates, let the dog eat it. Pretty soon, you just ring the bell, the dog salivates, associating the bell with food. Some also say that once the dogs seen people in lab coats, they would do salivate instantly, since they were the ones that kept feeding the dogs.

We look at our phones because we got in the habit of doing it since we are so wired into needing to be busy and have distractions. Plus they are cool, we spent a ton on them and what else do we have in life?
