Funny that you should mention it. I have been watching old episodes of wile e. Coyote and roadrunner and the early ones were all made from 1949-1970-ish and you can clearly see that the background artist made each scene in an art deco style, which apparently started in the ‘golden era’ of the 30s. The episodes in the 80s and 90s all have somewhat photolike (although cartoon) style design.
Maurice Noble was the legendary layout and background art director for Warner Bros. cartoons. He transformed the Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner shorts by replacing realistic deserts with sleek, mid-century modern, geometric, and abstract landscapes that felt closely aligned with Art Deco and modern art principles.
There was also a prominent architect named frank lloyd wright who made somewhat art deco style gas stations.
