Have you seen this yet? Double Fine is cutting out the publisher by going to the gamer via kickstarter.

I seem to have problems posting the video, so just follow the link. There is a silly video with Tim Schafer from double fine explain their idea. Basically, the will be filming a documentary of the game making process. The intended to raise $400k, but have well exceeded it at 1.5 million + (100% funded in just over eight hours)

For $15

The finished game in all of its awesome glory on Steam, exclusive access to the PC Beta on Steam, access to the video series, and access the private discussion community.

For $30

HD download of the documentary series with extras, Digital game soundtrack, and all previous reward tiers.

I didn't recognize Double Fine from any game I have played lately, but I have read that Tim Schafer was invovled in the Monkey Island games and Full Throttle.

I'll admit, these point and click games aren't exactly my favorite. If you have criticisms for the way games are published or developed, you should be interested in this.

Ya I saw that, they made like a million dollars in one day. Double Fine makes awesome games too.

I would love to see another Adventure Quest from them. What a great game that was!

I followed this for a few days last week. Double Fine makes some good/popular games. The only full production (read released to disc not some arcarde download) of theirs that I've played was Brutal Legend. I don't know that it was overly popular, but I enjoyed it. They have an almost cult following over other games like Costume Quest or Stacking (XBLA). I really enjoyed costume quest and it's add-on, haven't tried Stacking though.

I just wish they would do more Costume Quest. I miss games with "fun factor" Double Fine seems to bring this to all their games.
