X-Arcade controller

The track ball makes me think of playing Golden Tee... that would be a fun console game with an accessory like this...

Was it already connected when you checked it out? Does he play on a TV or what? Good for him.

Those have the added functionality of being able to by an adapter to hook to a variety of consoles. There used to be a lot of criticism levied against them. They used budget sticks and buttons that didn't play as well as actual NOS. The PCBs were thin, and temperamental. Those people that complained either moved on or got over it, or X arcade upgraded. *shrug*

I've never seen one in person to make my own decision. I can tell you I bought Happ Supers years ago and I am looking forward to trying a new stick. In particular one that can switch from 8 to 4 way.

I can tell you of 5 websites to buy parts from. A sixth that sells primarily encoders; kadevice.com.

therealbobroberts.com

groovygamegear.com

ultimarc.com

paradisearcadeshop.com

arcadeemulator.net

Good for him anyway.

Its all about Shuuz

Ya he just had it on a table down there connected to a monitor. Hasn't loaded up any ROMs on it yet though. He is thinking about buying the case made from the same company and then this controller would mount in it.

They had a fairly neat pedestal I recall. If he is interested in bartops, have him check out: http://shop.harumancustoms.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=59 This guy is open to other designs as I understand.

Once you have the stick mounted to something that is more like arcade cabinet, it notches up the play-ability quite a bit.

Also, have him consider mounting the monitor vertically if he plays those games more frequently. I did, and it changed my life.

Those bar tops are nice!
I've never seen these in person either, but watched him start selling them on the arcade site I frequent.Somewhere in this Zapcon video you can see them in the vendors booth:
