I am just going to hang onto mine until it dies, they both play the same games, so unless you can really, REALLY justify it there is no need to update.

Very true... I checked into it and if I wanted the wireless N and a 250 GB drive it would cost me a fair amount yet. Enough that if I were to upgrade the sales price on my elite with Wirelss G would be around $130 (no controllers included though)

 
Next update will kill all of the old XBoxs.....That's how they roll. They need to make money!

More like ridiculous theory... They don't make money on the consoles, in fact they lose money on every console sale. It's the games and royalties where money is to be made. Releasing an update that kills your old 360 would cost MS money in one way or another. Either in the marginal loss taken on each console, or in the loss of your contributed royalties for buying xbox games, live subscription, DLC, etc.

The new slim Xbox 360 can’t “red ring†because it won’t have any red lights on it any more. The way it will indicate a system failure hasn’t been reported yet. Here’s hoping that tons of customers don’t start getting a “blue triangle of deathâ€!

 
Missing the PS3 slim in the photo, but I don't really think that it is a contender. If I had a choice to trade in my existing PS3 for a slim I would laugh at whoever made the offer. Granted you get a larger hard drive, but then again the PS won't let you install games, so I don't care about that as much on the PS3. The big things I think are shitty about the PS3 slim is that it is uglier, fewer USB, and the biggest is that they took away the emulation for PS2 games. I rarely use the PS2 functionality, but I do use it at times. The Xbox slim on the other hand comes with a smaller power adapter, looks snazzier than the Elite, plays all the same games, has built in wifi and a bigger drive. The bottom line I guess is PS3 Slim < PS3 whereas 360 slim > 360 Elite
