What's new

All things World of Warcraft

Yep, mini content scenarios meant to draw out minor content & balance patches with expansions far in between.
All I can do is point back to WotLK. Devs weren't nearly as concerned with player experiences, caps, or goals. They worked hard months and years and released a product that only required fine tuning for classes and above that, they were happy with letting people sit back and actually enjoy it.

Every time I play now I get the sense some overactive micromanager type is trying to gage my feedback levels or something so that they can sell a half finished micro patch in a month. Feels... forced... inauthentic...

Maybe that's also because I really also have a sense how much executives are overpaid these days. /rant
Good post I agree with you 100%. Instead of a 1-time quality release it seems to be rushed, boring, not worth your time mini releases.

I have been having a little more fun in WoW lately, I changed spec and a bunch of talents and hero talents to try something new. I finally left my guild (it was dead).

So I have been back grinding hardcore on WoW. There is a trench coat for transmog I want, but man the grind to get it sucks. It takes over 10 hours of grinding to get.

tried it again

way too much loot and the game is split in too many different directions. random places all over to go to, no solid continent to explore and build...

just thinkin back to wotlk still.. still feels like devs have way too much micro-management control over momentary crap and it feels like more of a waste because of it..

i just wanna paint the picture again though

wotlk was released, all the content was there to play with minimal patches or balance changes. the focus was on leveling and there was less to collect, although there were some nice rewards at the end game. the dungeons and raids were all planned out and scheduled. new releases like trial of the crusader and icecrown were way down the line, giving people tons of time to explore the dungeons and find loot. epic pieces were hard to get and really gave you an edge with each piece.

they purposely made it 'capless' and 'soloable' and an endless grind with literally no method of comparison between yourself and other players, completely watering down and diminishing whatever 'community' there was from the start. it has turned into a complete cash grab and i despise everything about it, feels soulless

i did like it for a time though and i am still grateful for that... but i really can't carry that into some kind of empty respect for something i don't like now. just can't pretend i guess. that's part of the hard part of life i think... people make decisions that benefit themselves mostly and this is just another example of that, especially over the long term

more pets, more loot, and more patches all randomly delivered in a willy nilly sense was never a good method of delivering 'content'. content is meant to be unraveled slowly and methodically... that's where the artwork and a good story comes from. discovering new angles and characters which are interwoven throughout a slowly developed plot. that really did exist in wotlk. i remember being excited just to figure out who the freaking taunka were... that idea to me is still the best in online gaming, and the arena they created is what actually made players attempt to make the rest of the game fun: you can really tell and feel when a person is or isn't excited or having a great time.

wotlk was the best because it was a continent on azeroth. all of the new content unfolds there. and it's a place where you aren't made to wander over repeated areas which are established for leveling. the whole PROGRAM of the game was written towards exposing the "content" or expansion. not just hemmed on as an afterthought. i'm sure they know about it though... it just milks people who are already into the game to give them more time or something, but i still don't see why they would ever make getting new loot so NOT rewarding. getting an epic helm now feels like buying a can of soda at the store. i could go on and on man i'm really just imagining running around sholazar basin, hiding and pvping or finishing quests, making food and coming back for more. queuing for wintergrasp and doing violet hold on heroic all the time. i didn't even complete ulduar but i still did naxx when it was new

i just really enjoyed the atmosphere, the balance of classes and abilities, and the true purpose of epic upgrades; a level of power you could actually feel in combat. it just can't be made that way again if they keep tweaking it so much and trying to add so many different avenues or directions. it has to be "linear" but distinct you know? not just teleporting all over the damn world. i just really can't explain just how weak and betrayed i feel (because of the amount of fun i had) but at the same time i'm also detached from it because i know it could be worse, you know?

give mea friggin break \/

i also really gotta say at this point that i think LFR killed the game as well as the "loot tricks" game

I think you just have to forget the old WoW it will never be the same again. Then focus on just one class and one spec and focus on it. Try not to do to much I was trying to carry two toons and it was too much. I just do one now and it’s not so stressful.

nerd rant

they treated both the tauren and blood elf like they were stupid puppets... they simply didn't utilize them enough throughout the expansions.. i mean just in a larger, story-driven sense. they did mini stories with minor characters, but as far as using the strengths and characteristics of each race, they let that all slide. after BC/wotlk, there is no way that the blood elves would have remained in their place, serving the horde. how passive and tame the blood elves were all along was completely contradictory to their race. even them breaking off didn't make sense. they usurped power by drinking from the well of eternity; they're not gonna just hang out for generations under thrall and sylvannas's rule, even after the destruction of the sunwell. same goes with the tauren. the whole "both sides getting along because horde and alliance exist" is what really cheapened the plot in general, and they tried to push the race unlocks as a side-quest

again, i get that some blood elves became void elves. i'm just saying in general, they could have used each race to create an entirely different expansion of characters and side plots, instead of mini-content to release new races. that's their choice though i guess

chewbacca was a wookiee, wookiees are from kashyyyk. that does not make sense. if chewbacca was a wookiee you must acquit!

in my "world of warcraft" i would go back to wotlk after the fall of the lich king... everyone returns to azeroth from fighting the scourge and that's when the blood elves and tauren would have taken entirely different paths. i would have had the tauren timetravel/warp out of azeroth to live with the taunka in draenor and i would have had the blood elves rise up as a super race to fight against, not just the burning crusade and sunwell demon battle thing. to me, they should have grown even more in power & been the ones to challenge both the alliance and thrall in orgrimmar.

to offset that balance, i would have races like quillboar and centaur join the horde, but i would have had the nightelf break off from the alliance to do it. perhaps in kalimdor (ashenvale) there becomes a partnership between night elf and orc and then new races gain earth power like i said.. just spitballing here

dwarves, humans, and night elves don't belong together...

^^ that's what i mean. they're fighting trolls for thousands of years (possibly) and they just join the horde and live in a tiny city? i think not. ridiculous under-utilization

here's more about what I mean:

The Sunwell was destroyed during the Scourge invasion of Quel'Thalas, when Prince Arthas Menethil invaded the kingdom, slew most of its population, and used the Sunwell to resurrect Kel'Thuzad as a lich. This ritual tainted the Sunwell's energies and threatened to kill the few elves who had survived the onslaught; in response, Prince Kael'thas Sunstrider, last of Dath'Remar's bloodline, rushed to the aid of his homeland and had the corrupted Sunwell destroyed. This act saved his people from destruction, but also cut the elves off from their source of power completely. Bereft of their beloved Sunwell, the elves, now calling themselves the blood elves, were left with an insatiable hunger for arcane magic.

maybe just more from the blood knights... but it just seems odd that they, after getting "fixed" from the sunwell, decide to be subservient members of the horde. to me, they would have been led astray again (not just as void elves) but probably would have decided to leave the alliance and the horde altogether, or made some kind of 3rd partnership. them just taking a backseat after all of that was weird to me though but perhaps they will be more prominent in future expansions, but it seems like there should have been more of a plot involving xal'atath in dornogal, what with the void energies being such a large part of what's going on.

i know it is what it is, but again, i would have had the blood elves remain strong enough to fight after the sunwell's destruction. they would have brokered a deal early on and been more wise about it I guess. the void elves plot hasn't really been established though so there's still hope, but elves in general are supposed to be super smart, ingenious, and willing to do anything to not only survive, but have power.

I don't like scenes throughout the game where lor'thermar or other blood elf leaders are just willingly helping sylvanas or the horde along. Just now I was watching them help bring in the zandalari into the horde. It just felt weird as heck, the horde should have been shattered during both thrall and garrosh's falls... doesn't seem like there should have been a horde left, but that's how they explain being strengthened by other races. I just don't feel like it fits the "character" of the game to have "horde leaders" helping one another. It seems like there should have been more battles within the horde against one another.

not really angry or upset or anything.. just ranting about lore. you are right, game can still be fun if you accept it won't be the same

Man WoW has been great today running and getting all these old mounts with the new buffs in place. I got Rivendale Deathcharger, and G.M.O.D.

Once nice thing about this month is not only all the mounts you have a chance at dropping, but all the transmog stuff. It's sweet running old raids right now.

This is the last week for the extra chance at mounts, tonight I got

I have been waiting for this and running it for sometime, pretty stoked!

Man I ground this one out tonight before next week, but got it.
