What's new

Automobile prices and the upcoming tariffs

Just checked the local Subaru dealership, looks like the new Outback went up $7,000 from the 2025 to the 2026 version, a lower trim level as well.

Nobody buys Subarus anymore except above and Mac owners.

Jeeps seem to be the new everywhere.

Sure, get your Jeep so you can have a collection of duck sitting on your dash while it's sitting in the shop for engine problems.

It wasn't that long ago we were all driving these cars. Dodge Neons and Honda civics roamed the streets. Now it's huge suvs that can almost be registed as a semi. One thing is the soccer moms are going to feel wierd going from a huge suv to a compact car.

I've never liked the small cars. On the other hand, I don't care for the huge Suburbans either. Full sized pickups and mid sized SUV's are the sweet spot. A small Toyota Tacoma would be decent for a young kid starting out though.

I read that the new Subaru Outback wasn't selling like they thought it would. Some people were saying that it was because of the new design, while others said it's because they are asking way too much for them. Ultimately, people look at the bottom dollar. You can't leap in one year and ask 50k-60k when they used to run 30k-40k. I see this happening everywhere, people pushing and raising costs more and more. People eventually draw a line in the sand and say no. Have fun sitting on all that inventory. No wonder they are having these huge incentives right now.

If the Cybercab gets released and is available by the end of 2026 for under $30,000, like Elon says, this will destroy the current vehicle market. It will revolutionize the auto industry. Vehicle manufacturers will either have to lower their prices by more than half to compete or go under.
