What's new

Cheesemakers union

Internet at the new place hooked up this morning, when I can get my computers unpacked I can focus more on fluxoid and getting things straightened up. I'll post an update on what has been going on when I get off my tiny phone screen.

So what has been going on in this Cheese maker's life lately? Well some of you may or may not know that I recently moved. A lot of things brought about this move from my job to the economy where I was living to my Daughter's well being around family. Basically when it was just me and my wife things were good. We both had good paying jobs. We had a house 3 vehicles etc. Then we had a Daughter and things changed. We lived in a small town and only had one day care. Let's just say it wasn't the best. Everyday my wife would call me on the way into work in the morning saying how all she did was cry going there etc. I guess that was the first seed that was planted on making me move. Second my job was bought out by another company and things basically went down hill from there. I won't get into it but most of you know it wasn't the best situation. My Wife's job was the best and that was what made this so hard. But she wanted to stay home to watch our Daughter instead of daycare which I totally agree with. We started looking at the beginning of the year and even took a trip over here and looked at different places to live. But then we would get back home and in the groove of things and pushed it aside. Our second trip over here this year was different we decided to list our house when we got back. This happen to be right at the time the oil took a dive. Right after that I became obsessed with watching both the housing market over there along with the Crude oil prices. Both were falling. I worked the hardest I have ever worked on a yard I mean everyday until I couldn't see anymore I was out there raking leaves. I felt like I needed to put effort into helping getting out. I watered everyday from July on. We finally got an offer. Then they gave us a closing date and everything was looking good. About a week before our closing the said it had to  be pushed back another two weeks. Now I already had put my two weeks in since I had to make a fast trip over here to get vehicles back. So I had to sit there in my house for an extra two weeks. Then a couple of days before the closing it happened again and got pushed back another week. I won't get into all of this since it would take to much time. But lets just say we had 5 yes 5 closing dates. I have been almost out of work for almost two months now where it was only suppose to be a max of one. Then the day we were suppose to get our Uhaul they didn't have one available to us even though we had it reserved a month in advance and talked to two people the day before that told us it would be ready the next morning at 9 am. Anyways we ended up staying with my parents for almost another two weeks when we got over here. The people that we were buying from were very mad to since this was taking so long. I almost gave up thinking that it would never work. This whole thing has been one of the hardest things that I have ever done in my life. In the meantime when we sold our house, homes were going up at a crazy rate and home prices were dropping. Because of the oil dropping the towns and surrounding town people were making a mad exodus out of there. So basically this was our once chance to get out and move back home or by spring of this coming year I believe home prices will be back to what they originally were when we first moved to that area. Well  to make a long story short we made it out in the nick of time and closed on our house last Thursday afternoon and this well be our fourth day here. Still moving stuff in and getting things setup. A lot of small things to fix in the house etc. It's scary starting all over again. Neither of us have a job yet and I am just trying to get things settled here before I go looking. I woke up last night lying in bed having almost a panic attack thinking "what did I do?" to go from a perfectly settled life with two great paying jobs to nothing. Try doing that with a child. But at the same time I did it all for Her in the first place so she could be around family and have things to do growing up. I will keep this updated for those of you that want to hear my many adventures to come. So I will try to do a better job on the site now that things are starting to settle down.

I thought I would also mention it's not all a bad thing coming here. I am saving $120 a month on my insurance and better coverage. I have no state tax. My internet is double the speed back home at half the cost. My home taxes are 2 grand cheaper over here. Plus everything is so cheap over here compared to back home including groceries to even the hardware stores. As a bonus We went out and cut down our first live tree for Christmas in probably 15 years and this will be our first Christmas with family in I think 8 years. :)

You did the right thing for the right reasons, so never feel you made a mistake.  I'm glad everything worked out in the end selling the house.

Thanks man it was one hell of a roller coaster. Today was a lot better. The sun came out and it was a nice day. Got to hang out with my dad in the new garage so that was fun.

Well first wave of resumes went out today. Let's see what happens. Only applied at 3 cheese factories.

Well in the meantime I have been working on a website for a lady/business the last couple of days. I told you @C Pav there is work here.

That's cool, do you think about just doing those kinds of things or would you rather work for an employer right now?

I actually love doing this stuff. I would love to have my own business doing it. Just not by myself. If it was me and say 2 other guys I would be all for it. Get to work from home, tax breaks etc.

That sounds like a tough gig to me.  Without formal training / certifications you'd be hard pressed to find decent customers willing to pay enough to make it a worthwhile cause (or be unjustly fleecing ma/pa operations).  Finding qualified workers, finding the work, etc would also be painful

It's all about your portfolio with web design. You don't need paper for it but proof of what you can do. You would basically walk into companies with a laptop and a business card. Ask to speak to the owner and open your laptop and show what sites you have created. You can also show the increase in traffic to show how it is a worth while investment. There is a high demand not only around here but in this whole state. I would say that almost no websites around here have been updated since the early 2000s and non are mobile friendly which this day and age is a huge thing. There is money to be made. But I don't want to take it on all by myself. Creating a site takes planning and a lot more time than a lot of people think. You basically need someone how acts as the consultant and finds out what the customer wants. Then you need a couple of coders. A graphic designer would be nice to for custom logos. Then you can charge monthly maintenance contracts to keep things up to date etc. Like I said there is a need here and someone is gonna get rich off of it someday.

Starting to dread IT more and more each day. Isn't the same man. First I don't feel I know as much as I should. Working with @nodle I learned a lot as he knew how to get answers. Now I am here and get lost in trying to find solutions and learn anything. I also fear things like crypto locker, failing servers and other major things I just don't want to encounter but know I will. It's the demanding bosses and need of NO DOWN TIME mentality. I just want to open a pizza place.

I always think of you when I think of pizza places. I remember when you worked for that one you had a blast. They have a small nice one here. I thought about applying since it would be a "fun" job and not about the money.

Still kinda on the fence about getting a job to fast though. I mean I know I need to but the more resumes I turn in the faster I will be going back to work. I've been kinda enjoying just getting into the swing of things over here. There are a lot of things we want to do over here this year. I would almost rather have a part time job or something. But I have been out of work almost 3 months now.

This right here is what is wrong in life. Why can't man just live life the way he wants to? I mean you live and die, can't man just decide what he wants to do with his own life instead of being forced?
