Forgot my Windows password, good times

Well, I'm having a hay day troubleshooting my main PC. Cables are too short and I decided to disconnect the DVD drive. I think I have a bad cable, or a bad drive.

Anyway, while I was messing with that, I decided to power on one of my other PCs. Let me tell you about the password fiasco I just dealt with. This was my old PC. 2Gig of RAM, Geforce 8400 GS, no pci-e slot. Old timer PC, but not the oldest of the bunch I have. I noticed that one of the drives wasn't connected, so I tried to boot it up.

Windows 7 Ultimate. I high fived myself while no one was looking and yippied out loud. This would be a major score, hell I might buy another SSD and a stick of RAM to get my other new curbside up.

Tried to log in. Couldn't. Hint says favorite password. I racked my brain for whatever was my password was so I could use this windows 7 ultimate on another PC.

I want this to work.

Can't think of it, so I try magic jelly bean, after rejigging the ide cables. magicjellybean doesn't see it because its in another partition or something. Try to make a bootable hirens usb. That isn't working. Not sure if that is a separate matter or if it has something to do with the PC, it was always sort of finicky. I really want a success over this thing so I can part it out or use it for coral reefbed.

Finally go back to main PC, rejigger the sata cables to get DVD burner to work.

Load it in old PC.

Fire it up, go through the steps to clear the password

Only to find out,

Its windows 7 build 7100

lol that sucks, Hiren's does have a password reset tool built into it thought it works for Windows 7.
 
Ya. I burned it on to cd. It worked. I guess I left that out when I was typing my story.

Still, I felt like I won the lotto, until the end that is.
 
Yep, I would have also suggested the Hiren's Windows unlock tool, it's about the only tool I have found useful on their (not to knock it, I only seem to find use with that one tool). Or loading up to Mini XP to see the hard drive and it's contents.
 
At work I use a tool that's called "Active Boot Disk". It's real easy to change/reset passwords with. Even works on Windows 8 as long as it's not a password setup using a email address. But it will reset local account passwords on Windows 8. As far as Hiren's go it is loaded with tons of tools that I don't use either. Mostly I use Norton's Ghost, HDD re-generator, Memtest 86, and some times the password rest tool. That's about it.
 
Just wanted to say props to Hirens Boot CD. Even after all these years, it works flawlessly, resetting Windows passwords. Plus, they have really advanced their UEFI booting as well.
