Giving blood, where does it go?

I know giving blood is a good thing, but what do they do with it all? I am sure that it expires all the time. But with so many people giving wouldn't there be enough?

I know this is an old thread, but I head there is another shortage. Where does all this blood go? I mean I know people use it for medical procedures and all, but it really makes you wonder where it all goes? Vampires, cult rituals?
