Headphones, IEMs & DACs: Recommendations and Audio Discussion

I noticed walking around lately, how many people are wearing their AirPods constantly anymore. We have a coworker that does this all day as well. I know with their transparency modes there is no reason to remove them, but I don't know if I could just wear them all day long.
I can't even imagine. I hate that junk in my ears. Good for business however.

Next, I have arriving the Tanchjim Tanya iems. These are somewhat different style of iem for me. I have heard good things about them, especially the bass. Should be here today.

I got to sit down last night and put a pair of iems and listen to a couple of songs. I have forgotten how good music can sound through a good pair of headphones. I have been listening to the same album for about two weeks now, but though the dac and iems I was hearing parts of the songs i couldn't hear normally. So relaxing.

The KZ HBB Pr2 iems I am enjoying. The stock foam tips are junk, so I got rid of them right away. The cable is actually not all that bad. They sound decent, but I am sure it's the HBB tuning. I have a few other HBB tuned iems and I like them all. For the money and one of the cheapest planar iems out there they are decent. Build quality is excellent as well.

I haven't used my Fido K5 pro ESS dac in awhile, and I forgot how good it can sound. Has some punch and the zero noise is impressive. Such a clean, clean sound.

I have been really enjoying my older Grado 60 lately. Thinking about a set of Grade 125x.

I placed an order for a simple Apple lightning to 3.5mm adapter. I was reading a post and some guys were talking about when you run your phone through one without a DAC in between, it almost sounded better than a DAC. For $7 I thought I would try it.

So, I placed an order last week for some new headphone pads for my Grado. They call them 'G-Cushions'. I got them at lunch today and installed them. They really do make a huge difference not only for the bass response but mostly for the comfort alone. No more pressure on your ears. They turn into a completely different pair of headphones.

I have been looking for a new pair of over the ear headphones. I am seriously considering the AKG 702.

@jmanz you would be so proud of me, I have had a pair of headphones in my Amazon cart for a while now, and in the last few days the price just keeps dropping on them. They are already down $100 and I still haven't pulled the trigger.

The day is long.

I am glad I am over my headphone kick. They all almost seem scamy to me anymore. People pushing them all for a slice of the pie.

I must say Apple's spatial audio on their headphones is really a game change when listening to audio.

*EDIT
Even better I found that you can enable it on your Mac as well.

Turn on spatial audio on your Mac with Apple silicon

  1. Make sure that you're wearing your AirPods Pro (1st or 2nd generation), AirPods Max, AirPods (3rd generation), Beats Fit Pro, or Beats Studio Pro, and that they're connected to your Mac.
  2. Click the AirPods or Beats icon in the menu bar to see Spatial Audio listed while you’re playing multichannel content, or Spatialize Stereo while you’re playing two-channel stereo content.
  3. Click Head Tracked to turn on spatial audio and dynamic head tracking. To turn on spatial audio only, click Fixed. To turn off spatial audio and dynamic head tracking, click Off.

Just hooked up my iFi Zen Dac and put in a pair of iems and I have forgotten how good and clean music can sound though a good dac and a good pair of headphones.
