What's new

Now that E3 is over, which system for you?

Did they give you an extra dose of the Microsoft Kool Aid today? Was it to wash down the large meal of crow that Microsoft had to eat yesterday? Time to wake up son.
I only drink Pepsi. It's just that my IQ is above 2 (maybe I should be a little nicer since some may not realize I only half hate you). As for crow... I think you need to go read my post about how they had to back peddle because people are too dumb to see a good thing coming.... Though if you look at articles about the reversal, you'll find that there are those happy it changed, and there are those unhappy with the change (http://winsupersite.com/xbox/microsoft-reverses-course-xbox-one-policies has some such comments)I'll get one, I'll play games, doesn't matter much to me. I still say I would've liked the idea of not having to put the Disk in the console. I could just buy digitally and not have to worry about that, BUT my internet provider does put a 300GB limit on my bandwidth per month, at which point my bandwidth gets limited (no overages at least), so I liked the idea of buying a disk to install, but not needing it after.

More than that though, I liked the idea that I could purchase a game and a buddy 2 miles or 2000 miles away could play MY game without needing me to send them a disc or anything else. Just go look at what games ndboarder has, pick one and start playing. The reverse I guess could be that some idiot might manage to convince me that Madden 25 was a worth while game and I could just play it from their collection.

Edit: You've met me sir, so I assume you realize I will argue with you until this about the end of time or until you purchase an Xbox One and deal with it right?

Boarder, I sort of agree with you on the loss of game sharing. I actually liked that in a way and wish it would have stayed. However, even though they think everyone should have super internet fact is not everyone does. Many people do not have internet at all. Look at military guys who want to game but don't have internet access. How about those with limits? They can't share if they hit there limit and/or if they system is always uploading and downloading data. Some people don't live in an area where their service is great and top speeds may only be 2 MB down and lucky if they get 112 kb up or something while paying crazy amounts for that. I think it's hard to make a perfect system but the systems should always be catered to what customers want not what they or the game makers want....or at least it should be a shared vision and offer the best of everything.

I will be honest, I want every system...EVERY system but like nodle jokingly but truthfully says I probably won't get any. Not at launch anyway. Tell you what, call me up and sell me on it and or hook me up with a day one edition pre order( I will pay but need to still be able to place order) and I will get it. Better yet have Bill Gates call me and I will buy 2.

I'd hook you up if I could CPav, but my pre-order is from Best Buy, so I'm paying full price myself for the first one. They don't charge until the day it ships or you pick it up, so if something better comes along I may change my order, but for now at least I know I have a day one edition.

As for having Super Internet, you'd really only need that if you are going to download every game you buy. I liked the previous system, because the disc was basically just install media for a digital copy, so I didn't have to touch my internet bandwidth. At 50MB, it doesn't take too many downloads or too many hours of Netflix to eat GB's of data. Anyway, as far as the check in stuff, it was said it would be like an 80KB file. Even on dial-up internet (not that dial up would work with an Xbox, broadband required, even today), the amount of time a person would have to be online is measured in seconds or minutes of the day.

The military is definitely a valid example, though I read one post where some guy said, hey what about me, I'm on a nuclear sub. Well if he was able to put a post on a web site from a nuclear sub they must have some level of access periodically. Still a valid scenario, but the story was never fully told, and the check-ins are all software, so something could've been done about that without completely removing it.

Everyone calls it DRM, and yeah it was a licensing check, so I guess it's rights management, but let's be clear current systems have DRM, the Xbox One will have DRM, and the PS4 will have DRM. You will not be able to just make a copy of the BD disc and give it to a buddy and turn one copy of a game into two.

I think the system will eventually come back, over time and hopefully they offer in game exclusives or discounts on digital to push people that direction. The same will likely happen in the PS4 ecosystem. Consumers just couldn't look at the big picture and swallow it in one gulp I guess. The part of it that may be the biggest loss is the potential to see prices drop on games, either immediately at launches or maybe just faster. Steam makes a ton selling games at big discounts and running frequent sales. I see posts here frequently about emptying of wallets because of Steam sales. Steam is able to offer those prices because the publishers are willing to give discounts when they know that in the PC world through Steam there is no resale market. They don't have to charge me $60 because they won't get any of the $55 the next guy pays to someone for the used copy (hypothetically since I've never sold a game back to GameStop, Best Buy, etc). That's a whole other topic, but lots of interesting posts and rampant speculation of what it could've done for game prices and/or keeping so many studios from closing up shops.

I actually almost bought a 360 a few months ago because we wanted another streaming device in the house. Decided that was foolish with the new technology coming out. I mainly like to get you riled up, that makes my day. But the initial requirements were gayer than two boys humping especially needing Kinect to be plugged in for the system to operate. Another additional hundred bucks for people that are new to the Xbox world.

Mountain Dew or GTFO. No XBox players drink Pepsi. It's Dew and Doritos or get a Nintendo Wii. For you Mello Yellow fgts, get an Atari. If you buy a GAME system for streaming you are doing it wrong. As for the Kinect, it's watching you masturbate as we speak. It will help refine your porn searches better in the future. Maybe even offer some tips on making the experience better.

If you are taking this seriously realize we are arguing about video games. Let's just play games and have.

You lost all credibility when you mentioned Mountain Piss. Horrible. Mello Yello stomps a mud hole in MD and walks it dry.

I'm confused, are you talking about needing a Kinect for the 360 (because you don't), or for the Xbox One (where the extra $100 is not something paid after the fact, it comes with every system sold)Edit: BTW, Mello Yellow is terrible. Not a huge Dew fan, but it beats MY hands down

Yeah get it right Jmanz, the Kinect is actually adding about 150 to the extra cost.Actually I think they should drop the kinect and drop off a large part of the unnecessary cost.

Nah, not $150, and dropping it will not likely happen. Outside of anything else, one reason they wanted the internet and Kinect was so developers could create games with the assumption that those two things would exist for every player that bought the game. The internet has of course changed, but I'm pretty sure they really want the Kinect available for developers to get creative with.I realize that many of the existing games that use it are pretty gimmicky things (Dancing, Sports, etc), but there are some games that had kinda neat uses (Issue squad commands in Mass Effect 3, some in SkyRim are some examples) that many gamers found to be intuitive and liked. The idea they can monitor the controller and potentially allow your body to act as a third analog stick could lead to interesting concepts. Think back to the first time you ever played a game, I know when I first played Mario on the NES I would raise the controller and move it to the right every time I had a long jump to make, as if it would somehow help Mario jump further. Now, it actually could.

I understand your points but I don't see it beyond a gimmick that is only a novelty that shouldn't be pushed on everyone. If someone wants it then fine have it as an option not something required. Voice and commands? Headset work just fine and better in fact. Motion control was a gimmick Nintendo did and truthfully best games are better without it. Don't get me wrong, it is fun when done right but overall I enjoy games with a controller.

I'd be fine with them making the Kinect optional, but I understand why they are doing it. I haven't tried the voice commands in game, but I've hear commanding your squad that way and being able to use the controller to do your own shit is pretty nice in some of the games where it was enabled. For talking, the headset is a must. If you use the Kinect for in game chat you are an ASS.

The time I personally found huge value in voice commands was when watching Netflix and making Lefse. Great to just tell it to pause, or play the next episode, or whatever and not have to worry about taking a few minutes to get your hands cleaned up to use the controller.

Today it is a gimmick, most of the time. Tomorrow, when everyone has it, maybe developers will have some real uses for it. Either way, you may as well just consider it part of the Xbox from here out.
