Let's be realistic. Oil and everything it is used for and does dominates the world. It's how it is. All I can say is good luck with that. Don't get me wrong I would love many changes to cleaner energy and all around better quality of life changes but it isn't going to happen...easily anyway. Signing a bill is nice but then what? The plan doesn't work and you are back to where you started.
Sounds like 5 years ago to me. I remember people saying this oil is never going to end, You lived in the bottom of the boom and you saw all the changes. I did too. I just spoke to a guy on the phone the other day that has offices in Fargo and Mandan and he was saying how everyone thought they it would never end over there. He goes we went from selling steel to oil companies to now selling steel to wind farm companies. I have heard there are quite a few of those over there now since I left, lets face it we never would had thought 5 years ago that they would be replacing the drills in the fields. I will agree partially with you though, will fossil fuels ever go away? No. Are there advancements in Wind, Solar, and even Electric products more than ever? Yes. Shoot growing up in the 90's did you ever think you would see an electric car on the road such as a Tesla? Nope. Those things were comic book ideas, and yet here we are. Me I just watch the news, and websites and start to put all the puzzle pieces together and predict the future of what I see coming. While a slow transition to other alternative fuels, it is coming. For those still hanging on to another oil boom around the corner I just don't see it happening as much as their greed wants it to come for their own selfish reasons (not talking about an individual but more for a town). I have heard for over two years since I left that it was coming back, but I hear less and less of it with reality settling in for these folks. Change is in the wind, in a way literally.

I'm not saying it won't ever get there. But for a country to think they are going to be rid of oil by 2040 is wishful thinking. It's not just vehicles. It would cost tons of money in infrastructure to do away with everything that needs gas, oil, or natural gas. In fact, recently I read that the world won't even reach peak oil until 2040. So we'll see. But good luck to those European countries that are trying it. I suspect they will have to extend their time frame. Do Muslims like clean energy? They will be running the show over in that part of the world soon.
Like I explained to @C Pav I guess I do have a little personal anger to oil since I saw what changes it brought. I lived though the boom, and I feel as it it brought more harm than good because of greed. While oil not ever going away, I just don't see it going to what it once was based of world living conditions, and technological changes. (War could change this though).
