The shaving thread

Well I got my Rockwell in the mail today. Pretty hefty razor, love the weighted stand as well. Craftmanship is excellent and I can't find any flaws with it. I will get my first shave with it maybe this Wednesday or Thursday. I think I will go with plate #3 based off of @C Pav recommendation.

I tried the Rockwell tonight it is nice, I don't care for the free Rockwell blades they sent. I thought I would just try one. I am sure they are just mild ones, but they didn't seem very sharp to me. After one use I switched it out. Going to try an Astra Platinum one next.

The blades from Walmart are sharp right out of the box though.

I wonder if they changed their blades as the ones I got many years ago when I got mine I actually liked.

I am averaging about 3 shaves per blade. I have been experimenting with the different brands of blades, some are sharper then others, but they all seem to be lasting about 3 shaves then I need to replace.

Might not like to hear this but I thought I got a better shave from my cheap Viking Blade than my more expensive Rockwell.

Tried out the Tabac on Sunday. The smell is hard to describe, old-time smell, somewhat powdery like people said. I enjoy it; it does last a very, very long time, basically all day long.

I haven't used my Rockwell in a while, since I didn't like the shave I was getting. I swapped out for the number 5, I think, and I got a way better shave.

I ordered my dad a safety razor, shaving soap, and a brush so he can enjoy it as well.

I had my old Mekur safety razor, my very first one that got me into the hobby. I didn’t take to good of care of it when I used to use it. This morning I took it out and used distilled water, some white vinegar and some Dawn dish soap and ran the pieces separately thought my ultrasonic cleaner. You should see it now, all the tarnish is removed and it polished the chrome and it looks like the day that I bought it.

Picked up a synthetic brush and some of this. I remember this brand from when I was little. I bet this is going to smell good.

I've used some of their stuff when I started out. Softer shave cream. Not a fan of tabacco scents. TO me smokey type scents just hang in my nose and lungs. I had a scent called Ghost Town barber from another company and it just had a lingering type smoke scent I never liked.

I used my Proraso shave soap last night. I thought the smell was going to be different, not my favorite, smells like medicine. I noticed it must use some menthol in it, since I could feel the soothing on my skin. It did lather very well though. Better than my other stuff.

I have heard decent things about this brand of soap.

Got my tobacco leaf the other day and had my first shave with it. It does not smell like what I was expecting. I expected some sort of deep, rich tobacco smoke. But it lathers nicely.
