Gather around boys and girls and let me tell you what an idiot I am. I needed to get fuel tonight and I thought to myself, "I have been running mid-grade fuel for a while now, so I think I will just go cheap this time and use regular." Well, I get done filling up and notice how expensive my fuel is, then I look, and I ended up putting Premium in. Instead of putting in the cheapest I ended up putting in the most expensive. I ended up spending about $10 extra. Oh well.
I wanted to make a post about also making sure to get your fuel at a quality place. I know that normally I have been filling up at a chain grocery store since I get points built up to get money off per gallon. But I am starting to think it's also poor-quality fuel as well. So, I am going to be using a different gas station for a while that gets their gas from a different distributor.
Yes, it does make a difference I think. A friend of mine in MN noticed a big difference in MPG after trying out different stations vs his normal station using the same grade of fuel.
I think it depends on what kind of engine the vehicle has. Some run great on low octane, some run better on the higher test.
I think you are right, all Subarus use boxer engines so that probably has something to do with it.
I heard that turbos require higher octane. But the temporary Subaru we have right now has a turbo. So, the other night when I went to fill up, I had to pull out my phone and look it up to see what octane it required and it said:
For the majority of Subaru models, such as the Crosstrek, Forester, Outback, Legacy, and Ascent, regular 87-octane fuel is perfectly adequate. These vehicles are designed to run efficiently on regular fuel, providing a good balance of performance, fuel economy, and cost savings.
So I just went with regular.
