If anyone happened to be considering an Xbox One at the $349/449 price points with any of the deals offered lately, sounds like the days are numbered and January 3rd will be the end. Prices will go back to normal 399/499. Though I'm sure sales will be back, but who knows if they'll be back before next November or not.

The major has a list of current prices and deals (many retailers still offering extras or additonal gift card with purchase)

I think it's the Sling App.

It is an app for Sling TV. which will allow watching whatever it is that Dish is going to offer via this service. Which basically sounds like normal TV, but streamed. Of course depending on DVR capabilities, etc, it may not be that enticing compared to just keeping cable/satellite TV.

Also, I think that article points out you'd still be able to stream via web and such. Just exlusive to Xbox One as far as consoles, for now. The wording definitely makes it sound like it will eventually move to other consoles (like Netflix did)

Note this is not to be confused with a Sling Box... way to go Dish, pick a name that will confuse

 
Features for the first Xbox One update of the new year have been announced.

Starting today, members of the Xbox One preview program will get to check out these new features first:

  • Game hubs – New in preview this month, game hubs are the go-to centers for all sorts of interesting content around your favorite games. Every Xbox One game will have a game hub where you can see which of your friends are playing the game, compete with your friends in game leaderboards, dive into the coolest game clips and game broadcasts, and follow the game’s VIPs and top players.
     
     
     




To get to the game hub for your favorite game, find a game in your pins, recently played list, or My games and apps, then press the Menu button and select View game hub. You can also search for any game in the Xbox Store and click on the game hub tile from the game’s store page.

  • Custom backgrounds and tile transparency – We listened to your feedback and added additional tile transparency to the Home tiles to make your background images more visible. As a reminder, to set a custom background, go to Settings > My Xbox > My background. Note: some items can’t be made transparent due to usage rights/restrictions for certain images.
     
     
     








  • TV updates – We’re releasing a lot of updates to the live TV experience and features are being released to additional countries in preview this month:
     
     
    OneGuide for the Netherlands – Support for OneGuide will continue in preview for the Netherlands and the missing channels for the Netherlands OneGuide listings will become available over the next few weeks.
     
     
     
  • TV trending in OneGuide – As you scan the detailed OneGuide TV listings, you can see which shows are trending by a “Trending on Xbox†note and associated icon. Xbox – live TV trending is based on the number of Xbox One owners currently watching that show in each country, pulled from anonymous data collected at a national level. Currently, Xbox TV trending is available to all members in the U.S., UK and Canada.
     
     
     
  • Live TV trending (new countries) – France, Germany, Brazil and Mexico will begin seeing live TV trending data in Xbox OneGuide.
     
     
     
  • Improved control of TVs, set-top boxes and audio/video receivers – Xbox One will work even better with more devices. This month’s preview release contains updates to the IR blasting database for new models and addresses issues reported by our fan community.
     
     
     
  • “Trick play†with Xbox One Digital TV Tuner – Preview members with the Xbox One Digital TV Tuner in supported countries (UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain) will now be able to see video frames when fast-forwarding or rewinding paused TV on your Xbox One consoles.
     
     
     
  • Live TV streaming on Windows Phone and Android – We are continuing the preview of live TV streaming on Windows Phone and Android devices for Xbox One Digital TV Tuner owners in the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain.

So I see they dropped the price again. That didn't last too long. Unfortunately they are just gonna have to leave it if they want sales.

Maybe, maybe not. They say it is coming back down for a while, but not setting an end date yet. Maybe it will stick, maybe it won't. They could get sales either way, but the lower price did make it the top seller in Nov. and Dec. and this gives more people an opportunity to jump in at the lower price point.Don't count on this being a permanent price reduction though...

 
The only reason they had the sales that they had during Nov & Dec was the price drop and it being the holidays. Trust me without it they wouldn't have had the sales. If they want to compete they are going to have to leave it. Not bashing the xbox but they NEED to do this. You can't give people a taste of low prices then jack them back up. You sales will come to a standstill. I really believe this price drop saved the xbox. It even got me interested in purchasing one. But once I heard the price was going back up I was like no way. Alot of consumers think just like me. Shoot I will say the same thing about the PS4. What helped them also were their sales and their offers of free games with it. They ALSO need to keep doing this if they want to keep up.

Really? You can't? So, if gas goes up, you'll buy an electric vehicle? How about that BD movie, deodorant, etc that was on sale at Walmart/Target/Best Buy last week, but isn't this week? You won't buy it?Yes, the discounted price drove high sales and is the primary reason the Xbox sold so well for the holidays.

Yes, there are frugal shoppers that will not purchase anything at a higher price and will wait on sales.

Yes, they will sell more now with the price lowered again than without a discount, because everyone loves a "deal"

Still, had they left it, there are plenty of people that would still buy it at $399 if they want one. Just like there are still people purchasing other consoles that don't have price drops, or purchasing their new ItemX this week that would've been cheaper when it was on sale a week or two ago.

Sure all consumers want a good deal, but all consumers also want stuff and they buy stuff, sales or not. They just buy more when they think they are getting a deal.

 
I should note, I'm all for the sale, I just don't necessarily think it is as critical to long term marketshare as some may think. They should just drop it to $299 and bring PS4 and Wii U sales to a crawl by comparison.
 
Also, you (everyone) should go buy one and download the Evolve beta so I have someone to try it with....
 
Watching the Windows 10 event. Few things Xbox and gaming related:

1) A game DVR built into Win 10, similar to Xbox record that, work with all games. Demo'ed with a steam game.

2) Xbox app to see your social stuff

3) Xbox app will allow streaming from Xbox One to any Win 10 device on the network

4) Demo of DirectX 11 compared to 12. Added more and more complexity to a map layout, same hardware eventually crashed on 11, but never slowed or showed any issues on 12.

 
Oh yes I know, trust me. I know your a big Microsoft fan boy @ndboarder . But I think my coworker is even a bigger fan. He was streaming it, and also following it on his other screen at the same time. He has done nothing but talk about it all day long. It's driving me nuts. :X3:

No he's hardcore, he has his new surface, xbox one bla bla bla, hes even running Windows 10 on his work computer. Funny part is he mostly plays Destiny on his PS4, and loves his Iphones lol
 
I have 10 on my work machine. When the new build comes out I may venture to put it on my Surface 3.

All in all, I didn't find the game related announcements all that exciting...

 
I found the idea of xbox streaming to my PC to be off putting. I don't mind digital storage and downloading, but I'm not really into the streaming from one machine to another inside my home. The steam streaming when I tried to play a linux game wasn't enjoyable.

I guess this is what they had in mind when they said the xbox one was going to be the entertainment hub.

 
Well I am sure that Steam won't like it. It's cool in a way, but can you imagine how many people will get in trouble trying to play with their friends on their xboxs while they are at work?
