What's new

All things related to the Xbox platforms

Today's the day @@jmanz gets greatness. Boarder don't be mad, both new systems are great.
No they aren't. Only the xbox one is great. Today jmanz gets mediocreness and hopefully it's full of red lines of death

Well all I have to say is the store better have on or the other tomorrow when I go shopping.

Guy at work here was complaining this morning about his new Xbox One. Guess he gets a memory leak with it? I'm gonna have to ask him if it blue screens or what. He says it's constantly freezes up when playing COD. He thought it had something to do with the hibernation mode it goes into?

I've never seen this on my Xbox One when playing call of duty, or anything really. I think you are making it up

No I'm not, when he comes by again I'll ask him about it. It's just what he said to me. I thought maybe it was a bug or something. I haven't really kept up with the xbox problems. The only thing I knew was the cd-rom thing.

Ok just talked to him. He said it was a little Window that popped up in the bottom right hand corner that actually said something about memory. He said the system was very slow before it happened. He said he would take a picture if it happened again.

Other than the few having issues with the BD-Rom the only issues I've heard of are:

A) People set them vertical rather than horizontal, which it clearly says not to do anyway, and I doubt this would have anything to do with memory

B) People use the recently found combination to enable "dev" mode (or fall for the online prank that says dev mode offers backward compatibility). In the first case, MS has explicitly said not to do it as it isn't the only thing needed and can cause issues, and in the latter it is a hoax as dev mode does NOT offer backward compatibility. If he happens to have turned this on, then I suppose it could cause memory issues.

If either of those is not the case, I don't want a picture and I can't help. Does he have any other games? Does it happen in other games? Basically either get ahold of Activision/Infinity Ward if it is just their game, or get ahold of Xbox Support of it happens over time on any game.

Oooh.. one other one, did he go into settings and turn on the 'enable fast resume' for games (or something like that), which is flagged in the settings as a beta setting? Just remembered one other thread I read somewhere that suggested turning that off if it was on

Just checked and he is actually playing a PS4........

Kidding but if you google search for xbox one memory error the first option should be a link to the xbox forums and sounds like others have gotten the message as well. The page is blocked here so can't read it myself.

Well, mostly that is people saying they think it gets slower over time, nothing about a popup saying there's one. Either way, the repeated suggestion is to turn off the 'Instant On', so the console fully shuts down and doesn't hold state in memory, or to cold boot it (hold the power button on the console for around 8 seconds at which time it will fully restart)

This just in. On the Xbox One you can get achievements and Gamerscore, while on the PS4 you can still only earn lame trophies ;)

First, I see they announced late yesterday sometime that 2 million Xbox Ones have been sold in the first 18 days. Seems both consoles are not sitting on shelves long.

So, after the let down of @@jmanz not having purchased an Xbox One, I did have to check Amazon to see if they were still in stock, since I know they were for a while yesterday. They are not.

I did however notice that the Xbox One is at the top of Amazon's Top 100 in Best Sellers, Hot New Releases and Most wished for items in the Video games category. PS4 was 2nd in the most wished for

Xbox One System Update I wanted to let you know that later today a required Xbox One system update will become available. This update works a little bit differently than what fans are used to on Xbox 360. Here’s what you can expect:http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5512/11310812683_2ced9080ab_n.jpg
A. If you are using the Xbox One “Instant On (the low power state that allows you to instantly power up your console by saying “Xbox On), your console automatically checks for updates when it you turn it off. Once we make the update available (on Tuesday, December 10th, 5:00 PM PT) this means the following will happen:

  • Your console will automatically download the update after you turn it off. Once the update has been downloaded in the background, your console will power completely down. Please note: You will need to manually power your console back on after the update has been downloaded. Because the update will power your console completely down, the “Xbox Onâ€ voice command won’t be available until after the update is fully installed.

  • When you turn the console on you’ll see the update being applied. After that, your Xbox One will reboot. You’ll know the update is installing when you see the Xbox logo on the green background (like at the top of this post.) This can take anywhere from 2-5 minutes. Once the update has finished installing, you’ll boot to the Home screen and you’re all set.

  • Don’t worry, if you are out of town for the holidays, you console also does regular checks for updates and will download it in the background even if you have not used you Xbox One in a couple of days.

B. If you are not using the Xbox One “Instant On feature, you will be required to download and apply this update after Thursday, December 12th at 4:00 PM PT.

This update addresses the following:

  • Addresses SmartGlass issues for some users when coming in and out of connected standby

  • Addresses multiplayer issues for some users when re-joining games

  • Addresses issues with inconsistent notifications for some users

  • Addresses dashboard performance for some users

  • Offers improvements for Xbox One’s TV, system update, and content update services for scaling over time

  • Updated wireless networking driver to improve connectivity issues for some users

We’ve got quite a few updates planned for the next year based on the community feedback we’ve been seeing, and I’ll have details on those in the future.

Thanks and I’ll see you online.

Yep, pulled the update down Tuesday evening. It's nice that it downloads in the background if you use the standby mode, so I played a bit, shut it off to do other things and it just downloaded the update after that. It does however fully shutdown once complete, so you have to use a controller rather than saying "Xbox On" to turn it on and finish applying the update.

I will admit the xbox updates are hands down better than the Playstation and least on the 360 vs. the PS3.
