*I JUST WANTED TO SAY CHECK THE DATES ON THE POSTS, A LOT OF THESE PROGRAMS EARLY ON ARE NO LONGER AROUND OR I DON'T USE ANYMORE.

I thought I would make a thread on what apps that I have found useful on the Mac.

  • Magnet - Basically brings the "snap to sides" feature from Windows to the Mac. allows side by side windows etc.
  • 1Password - A password manager similar to Lastpass. It is also supported on your Iphone and even Windows.
  • Hider2 - A safe for your files on your Mac. It uses AES 256 encryption and allows you to dag and drop files to be encrypted and allows you to hide files on your Mac until you unlock the safe.
  • CleanmyMac3 - A cleaner for your Mac. Has some other useful tools such as an uninstaller etc.
  • Boom 2 - Amazing audio enhancer for your Mac. It is pure magic what it does with your speakers.
  • Textwrangler - A nice replacement (and free) text editor for the Mac.
  • Airmail - A replacement mail client for both IOS and MAC. A cleaner interface and more customization.
  • Pixelmator - Basically Photoshop for you Mac at a fraction of the cost.
  • Spotify - Works awesome on a Mac, don't need Itunes.

One annoying thing about using a regular mouse is your side buttons not working, but thanks to this free little app, everything works flawless again.

Mac Mouse Fix - Fixes your mouse side buttons, smooth scrolling, etc.

I was using Unsplash for wallpapers, but it looks like it is no longer working on the latest iOS. So, I went with iWallpaper, which is basically a knockoff of Wallpaper Engine on Steam. Most of them seem like direct copies. They work well.

If you don't want to pay for Bartender, Ice does about the same thing and it's free.

Man I found the best app, even if you don't have a mechanical keyboard this one simulates the sound. It's great!

Ai dictation software, who needs to type anymore? What is this 2025 or something?

So I'm writing this using the VoiceInk program. I wanted to try it out and see how it worked and see how it transcribed my voice and see if there were any mistakes it made as well. It's pretty cool so far. You can just basically speak and it will type whatever you're speaking. It's pretty amazing no matter how fast you talk, or even mess up your speaking, it fixes it for you. It seems to be the best option because the reviews are really good. The price is very good. And compared to the others, it's a one-time fee versus a monthly charge. I'm just using my AirPods Pro, but it works just fine just as a regular mic. This was all written using the program.

I think this is a nice little app for those of you that like to reply with gifs. It sits silently in your taskbar until needed. The premium version is a one time cost at $2.99, can't beat that. It works quite well.

I came across this new program that will grab your iCloud data/photos and allow you to back them up locally, in a normal browsing format as well. I am going to check it out tonight.

I picked up the Parachute Backup posted above this morning. I am currently backing everything up to my Synology NAS and it's working very well. It's a nice little app if you want to make sure everything is backup up.
