I saw this post, and it got me thinking about an innovation that would be awesome in the next iPhone would be the addition of knurled physical aluminum buttons sticking out the side of the next iPhone. Maybe a few on each side. One on the left side for volume up/down. One on the lower right side for a camera zoom in/out. Another on the left side below the volume with a different knurling that is not as recessed as much that you can map yourself. Maybe even one at the top right where you could use your index finder to zoom in and out with.
