Stocks and investments

My wife told me people at her work are starting to pull their money out of their banks, because of the market lately.

The cash would sit inside of your account, so no penalties. You wouldn't be taking it out.

That's what I wanted, she might have thought I meant "fixed income" and mentioned something about bonds will actually be a bad idea right now. But I wanted cash assets.

Timing the market is a tough, tough deal. Even the folks who do it for a living don't get it right usually. Sometimes if you sell on the way down, you don't get your money back in on time to catch the upswing and it's too late. For us younger guys, we almost need the market to stay down for awhile so we can accumulate month after month on the cheap with the 401ks, brokerage accts, etc

If you have alot of faith in the market and think it will recover in the future you could invest in gold and make a killing when it goes back up. If it goes back up.

Timing the market is a fool's game for the most part. Always buy, don't sell, hold on for a bumpy ride. Some of the wisest investors I know are the ones that put X dollars aside in one form or another to purchase every month/quarter/whatever.When the market is high you don't get as much for your $, but you get something. When the market drops you temporarily lose value and can buy more for your $. When the market rebounds you will regain most or more than you lost, plus your new stuff is out.

If you buy 20 shares today and the value drops tomorrow, you still have 20 shares. If you sell them you lose money. If you hold on and the price rebounds you have gained.

If you fear the market will never rebound, then moving 401K to cash is a good idea (well if it doesn't actually rebound). If it does rebound and you move back to other options to late you'll have lost money

Doesn't gold usually go up when the market is low, and down while the market rises. If you think the market will recover, you'd make more of a killing buying into cheap stocks. If you want to make a killing on gold, buy in when people have faith in the market and the prices are low, and sell the next time there's a market panic and people are looking to move into precious metals.

Asian markets again are crashing, really bad by the opening where It's Monday in their part of the world. I'm thinking it's going to be a very bad Monday for American markets.

I am was thinking the same thing. After Fridays dump, it's going to be a tough week to pull out. Plus there is a lot going on in the world right now. Times are getting interesting.

Bloomberg

Asian stocks slid to a two-year low as the selloff that has spread to almost every corner of the global equity market intensified, spurring demand for haven assets.

CNBC

China's benchmark Shanghai Composite index opened down as much as 5.2 percent to 3,321.4, even as authorities allowed pension funds managed by local governments to invest in the stock market for the first time over the weekend. The move could potentially channel hundreds of billions of yuan into the country's struggling equity market.

So here is my question. What happens next? I'm no financial guy, but if it keeps up is there going to be panic? Anyone ever heard of the Shemitah year? For some reason when reading about this stuff it comes up a lot. Basically every 7 years this happens.

Anything could happen, you have both side of professionals saying different things. Some say don't panic, just a temporary thing, and some say it's going to be different this time and get messier. I guess depends on who you believe. No one knows, only speculation, but one thing for sure, we have been riding a huge bubble for decades, not just years. We keep printing money to save ourselves.

Dow down another 450 points today (more waves in the sea). This is suppose to be the big month everyone has been talking about.
