There is an alternative that is catching on, investing in 401K only up to the point of getting the company match and then putting the rest in a taxable brokerage. Don't get the tax benefits but you can take money out whenever you want.

October during midterms is traditionally terrible, plus the war. Probably in the meat grinder until that's over.
