Target CEO expecting an extra billion dollars in cost from fuel costs alone this year! Who does that cost get passed on to?

On the bright side, we are still up over 50% from 5 years ago.  That's still a good annual return,

Recessions of the past, how damaging and worrisome are they really?

"This too shall pass". Eventually the conflict in Europe will come to an end and inflation will come down. Just have to weather the storm.
True but man it's a bloodbath right now. Brutal for 1 day.

Wow, i have been gone most of the day. What a blood bath. Glad I have barley anything left in there.

Also wanted to note, we are still up 62% since 2 years and 2 months ago, that's incredibly great!

In fact, even if the Dow went down to 22,000 in the next few months, we would still be up the average 7% per year (from March of 2020) which is considered a good return. 🙂
Lots of day traders in here it seems.
Only speaking for myself, most of my individual names I've held for several years. I invest mainly in companies that pay growing dividends and then I reinvest those dividends into other companies of my choosing. I'm a long term investor for the overwhelming majority of the stocks I own but once in awhile I will do short term trades around some names if the mood strikes me. My retirement accounts are all index funds though and I don't get cute with those.

I remain invested but I am not putting new money to work (outside of dividends) yet. I'm targeting S&P 3500-3600 for that.
Smart man, I'm sure most here do safer funds as well.  I was joshing a little about day traders, but our health would be much better if we didn't watch the numbers each day.  Returns have been unnaturally high in the past so many years, we shouldn't be treating the stock market has a get rich quick scheme, but fast money allures and excites many.

You are right. Stocks are so much more popular now than when I first started investing years ago. I have several friends who are big time into it now. And I haven't figured out if that is a good thing or a bad thing yet for the overall market long term 🤣.

But long term, since most people are automatically contributing money blindly into 401k's, I would think markets will stay propped up well into the future.
I am a man that has no idea what he is doing, I started off with penny stocks, lost about $100 dollars then sold everything off, only to come to find out a year later that my penny stocks turned into some decent investments, and I would have made some good money.

I have no money to invest and most of my picks seem to fail, so just do the opposite of what I do, and you will be rich.

Now I am back to my Acorns and set it and forget it.

Really the best advice I've come across in regards to stocks is find something you like, wait for a reasonable price, buy it and do nothing. You have to let time do it's thing. It's boring but effective.

I don't want to be the downer here, but if you all think America is going to pull out of this and things will get back to normal, I hate to break it to you, but you are going to be waiting for some time. You have three major things playing against you:

  1. Inflation

  2. upcoming recession

  3. fuel costs

This inflation is slowly starting to hit. I mean slowly. Next summer you will really start to notice it. If you think food costs now are expensive you just wait. Or maybe I should just say everything costs. People are in denial right now. They are like things will get better, they will but not for years and years, and for it to clear up, things would have to change right now, and they are not going to. This is a hole that you cannot dig yourself out of.

Recession is coming. People are going to be out of work. The open border is not going to help, people are flowing in at a mass rate. They will take your job, we are lazy, they are not.

Fuel. Man, fuel costs right now are literally the fuel to the fire. This affects both inflation and recession. It's not a joke anymore, you will be paying over $5 a gallon and very very soon. It's will get to the point where you can't Travel anymore, or in fact make it to work without losing half your wage just to pay for the fuel to get there. People are going to start to think, what's the point anymore?

You can all try to make yourself feel good and think everything will be all roses and sunshine, but I am here to say no it won't happen again. Not for 10+ years. These are dark times, you know it, I know it. I have been saying it for years and the time has come.

Contain your excitement over there! If you were actually positive on the future we'd have to check your temperature. Or maybe give you one of those take-home Covid tests.
