Tesla and electric vehicles

I just finished listening to Elon's last interview with Joe Rogan. Super fascinating guy. As much as I don't care for the EV/green energy wackos, I do concede that Musk comes up with some cool stuff. America needs more guys like him, making new things.

I now see how Elon is the worlds most I hear man, I have been on vacation, and while I don’t see many where I am from. This whole trip I have seen so many Teslas everywhere. They are almost as common as Hondas here.

How long will you wait to look at EV as an alternative to your current vehicle?
Probably not in my lifetime. There are three things stopping me.

  1. Cost
  2. Where we live with the snow
  3. Lack of infrastructure

I would consider one as a replacement to mine now. Not going to happen - regardless of if its electric or gas vehicle, but I would at least consider it.

It wouldn't' be the only vehicle in the family

It wouldn't be used for long trips.

Weather / road conditions are affected by other things, not the source of vehicle power

Infrastructure also a non-issue if you can charge at home and aren't making long trips.

If you have like a <60minute frequent commute or just drive around town, you are probably a huge target market for them. Easily within range and the per mile cost is much lower than gas.

I'd be replacing a vehicle that gets very few miles per month put on it. In ~15 years, I have under 55K miles on said vehicle. Other than the couple long trips it ever took, I could easily get by with an electric for daily stuff and would still have a gas SUV around for other trips.

I don't know if I'd do it, but worth consideration in some scenarios.

Like @jmanz talked about above, people I think are going to be fooled in the future. First, by the time electric vehicles become widely available in your own area, the cost of the infrastructure to get power to these remote locations will come at a cost. Do you think they are all going to be free to run new sub stations, underground cabling, the cost alone of skyrocketing cable? They will pass these costs onto the consumer. By the time your area is set up, the new electricity price will be as much or more than gasoline. I can even see there being an electric car tax in the future. Parts will be expensive to repair as well. You will still be driving on the roads and wearing them down, so you will have to pay for that sooner or later. Nothing is ever free in life; you all know this.

I have been seeing a lot more on the Cyber Truck lately, supposed to hit production here soon, and be available for people by the end of this year.

A friend of mine is very interested in this. I could see him getting one when they become available.

I think its going to be a big seller myself. I think this is going to make Tesla's stock pop as well.
