The shaving thread

Your right @C Pav from what everything I read the Rockwell 6S (stainless steel version) seems to be favored by most.

@C Pav I have heard good things about the Holy Black SR-71 safety razor, too bad they are out of stock everywhere!

That looks very nice. Might add to collection but it's out of stock.

Honestly my next razor I need/want is a Timeless Titanium. Thing is it's about $250 and when you order need to know the blade gap you want.

Alight @C Pav I have a few safety razors I have added to my cart, but the next item to research is what brand of blades do you recommend? I have a bunch of Merkur Super Platinum blades at home still, but was wondering what are the best?

Oh boy that's a tough one. I got a 5 pack with the Rockwell razor and actually really liked them. Feather make some nice blades but are sharp. So many options out there and the word is different blades work better for different people. I am not a fan of Shark and Voskshod. I have a TON of different packs toi go through and honestly can't recall all. Astra are pretty good too as I recall.

I saw Amazon has a bunch of sample packs I could always try, is there really a difference do you think? Part of me is like a blade is a blade, but I am sure there are coatings etc. that make a difference.

I got a big sample pack fro Christmas...umm forgot if was 2 Christmas ago I think. So many to go through. Some I had already used and some not. A blade isn't just a blade though as material and coatings can be different. Just have to use and see how you like it.

I had my first shave this morning with the safety razor, I think I have been using Harry's for about 10 years now. It's nice to get back into it. My face feels way smoother as well. I did make sure to slow down on my shave though, you can't just speed chase and press hard, there is more skill required, especially around your mustache/nose area.

Oh btw the Viking Razor is super nice. I don't know how they can sell it so cheap. Even the packaging is top notch, even has a mirror built into it. I will be picking up another one of theirs.

Alright, let's talk aftershaves, what do you recommend? I ordered these two tonight, but was wondering if you had something else that you recommend?

Dam those are spendy!

Woah I heard of them and highly rated and recommended but had no idea they were that expensive. Maybe some day...some day. I'm hpapy with my Rockwell and next step will be a Timeless but now that you show me those I am intrigued.

I've used that once as I usually do a shave with the complete set. What I mean is if they offer a pre shave gel, oil or other product I get that along with the shaving cream and aftershave. Some have the pre shave, the shave cream, after shave balm and after shave splash. Can get expensive and I am sure I have over $1000 to maybe even $2000 of product. It's a lot.

My routine is shower and shave after. I get my shave brush bowl filled with hot water and soak my brush. I then use hot water to rinse shave area. Next is pre shave oil or product if I have one. It's not really necessary so don't always use. Next is mix up shave cream (since most are the harder pucks or soap) in the container. I don't have a shave bowl I like to lather it up in like many. I sometimes face lather especially with the softer cream like the one you got. I then do a 3 pass shave. With grain, across grain then against the grain. FInal is some touch up. YEah maybe I overdo it but I like smooth. I rinse with cold water between each pass then brush lather back on.

After shaving I use the septic pen if I have any bleeding spots. Works great. Next is the alum block I wet and rub over face to help seal the pores. If I have a post shave balm/cream I use that then last is the splash after getting dressed.

I have become a fan of "glacial" aftershaves that have menthol. Feel so cold but I like it.

What's this all about?
Some say it also helps stop bleeding but I like it to close up the pores. Stings a bit at first especialy if you have a bit more nicks but helps tighten the skin before a rinse and aftershave. Oh, also helps with razor burn.

Boy the stubble on my neck sure feels a lot better lately, it's like a smoother growth of hair coming in.

It’s funny how I actually look forward to shaving now. I tried out new aftershave from Cella Milano. It’s super nice. I also try the alum block. It reminds me of the septic pen.

I can’t believe you don’t get into this stuff @jmanz . I know what a cheap bastard you are, and this seems right up your alley for how much money you can save on blades alone.

I don’t know what took me so long to get back into this. This is one of those things in life where it’s quality and when you cheapen out it’s not worth it.
