Just starting this topic to get everyone's reasons and opinions on why we play games. My reasons are for stress release and they are fun. There is just something about being able to immerse yourself in a game that is fun or has a good story. Being able to control the actions and level up a character or just be amazed by a digital world that can be an artful masterpiece.

Stress reliever for me. I like to be able to go home and turn off my mind and pretend I don't live in this world for awhile. I also like the cooperation aspect of some games. I like to be able to advanced and be the best at something also.

Same here. I only play a few games a year, but play them to death. In the last two years, it would have been Boarderlands 1 & 2, Modern Warfare, Red Dead Redemption, and GTA V. I also enjoy puzzle & word games.

Stress relief and escape/immersion in something else and just for fun. I guess one of the bigger reasons I've spent so much time on some cames (call of duty) would also be socializing. Have a group of regulars dispersed and the only place I talk to them is online playing games.

Also, there's the aspect of doing things you just can't do in real life, such as reliving the past in games like assassins creed, super human feats, and so on. I'm sure plenty also like controlling their favorite teams/players in sports games, god level control in some genres, creativity in things like Minecraft, living alternative life styles to their own (GTA V)

Ya @@ndboarder has it nailed down. It's the fact of doing something that you cannot do in real life. From driving sports cars in a driving game, to flying, to just about anything. We just live out our fantasies though games. The social aspect is there too. When I log into WoW it's like walking into a party where everyone knows you. Gives you a great feeling.
