What's new

The new tipping trend

This is purely a management problem.

Learn to put the full price reflecting livable wages for all staff of menu items and not lure and trick customers with your "low" prices. I'm sure most of your customers are struggling as well, but want to eat out and enjoy life as well sometimes.

Servers are required to get minimum wage if tips don't make up for it, then increase your menu prices accordingly. Don't guilt shame customers, especially if service is average or subpar.

You also see or hear about servers that gloat about all the crazy easy money they reaped in from tips. They work multiple tables per hour and those tips add up fast. They are the same ones that complain and support tipping culture and how hard they have it. This doesn't apply to all, but it's growing and sets a bad standard.

It may just be what I have been through in life in general, but I always tip because I think humanity in general is closer and closer to bad crisis times... and I always feel like it's necessary to try to remind people that others care, even if it is in a small way. I know you can't earn grace and you can't buy friends, but I still just can't help it because of how many times I've been in those crappy jobs. It's better than jail or lying in the hospital, but it is still tough on your mind sometimes... to be stuck in the rut of just barely scraping by.

That's why it's important, also, to work close to family and friends in times like these - being a helping pair of hands can make all the difference, especially in the lives of the elderly.

It would be nice, I agree, to have the companies who hire people to boost their esteem more, but we live in an imperfect world. No matter how trite or old it gets, it's still, sadly, true.

I reinstalled the Pizza Hut app the other day to try out Pizza Hut again (not impressed). What aggravated me the most was that the app kept forcing me to go through a screen to leave a tip when I was ordering. I mean what for? You didn't do anything, you didn't take my order, I took my own order, you should be giving me a discount. Ya I uninstalled it, things like that turn me off a place.

Papa Johns charges a delivery fee not including tip. Maybe they all do that now, I don't get delivery too often.
