Flew mine a bunch this weekend. That thing has taken quite a few crashed. The rotors are chipped to hell and my body split apart yesterday after falling though a tree, but it snapped right back together. I am glad that I got it for the learning curve, but kinda want something a little bigger now. Been looking at that Syma this morning. It would be a step up and still cheap.
I haven't been flying too much lately. I got a better flight controller for my tinywhoop that can be used with my Taranis controller, but have been having issues with it. I have enough spare parts to build 2 complete inductrix drones (and the camera to put on one) - so I have the cheapo controller and inductrix running, but I took the camera off to put it on the one with the newer flight controller. Until I can get that stuff working it's just not as much fun - the other controller and original inductrix will now be more of an actual learning thing for guests that might be intrigued.
Then of course the Atom kit is here and I should be chomping at the bit to get it built. I may do a little more solder preparation work tonight on the ESC portion of the TBS cube (brain of the thing that has 3 boards for flight controller, ESC and such) so that it's ready to hook up motors, but I need to get some Loctite for all the tiny screws before I assemble stuff to the frame and start connecting the wires from motors to the ESC.
Anyway, all of this should be something I'm working on, but the latest Destiny DLC dropped so I've been busy with that.
Then of course the Atom kit is here and I should be chomping at the bit to get it built. Took my little drone out to the park (defiantly the place to fly a drone, no power line and wide, wide open spaces). I got her up pretty high and buzzed though some trees. My blades were already in poor shape, but I kept running them till eventually the tips of the blades broke off, then I ended up losing a entire blade entirely. Have another set at home it came with though. That's the only downside with the little drones. They are a lot more brittle than the bigger ones.
Got my Syma yesterday. About 3 times the size of my Hubsan. Still pretty light weight for it's size. Had to switch to "Mode 2" on the controller first. But she flew really well. Real stable and I like the lights on the bottom. Seems like they are trying to copy the DJI lights. Battery life seem to last for a good amount of time. I was even able to do some flips with it. Not bad for the price. I would recommenced this one over the Hubsan. Hubsan for speed, but this one for stability and learning.
I highly recommend getting one of those Syma X5C drones @ndboarder. It's actually really decent. Way better than my other one. Besides for the money you can't go wrong. Seems quality, and the battery life is surprisingly long. Tricks are easy to do. Could care less about the camera, but it's a steady fly and even has some speed itself.
I'm not really looking for one that does the flying work, like tricks for me. Fast, FPV camera and I'm set. I have my Atom V2 to get assembled yet, which will be awesome, but probably won't finish that up until after October 17th. Have this week to get ready, then honeymoon trip to Maui for 8 days. I also signed up for a group buy deal to get in on a Doinker for $150, so will have that coming as well. Basically a small thing, slightly larger than the Inductrix/Tinywhoop that has brushless motors. So pretty good quality stuff in a small enough to fly indoor package for the coming chilly months.
You definitely see them more and more in stores, though most are pretty crummy ones, other than the DJI phantom.
I got a replacement Beebrain controller for my Tinywhoop and got that in place, so can now fly it with my Taranis controller. It's a whole different animal with this controller and an ability to go into Airmode for crazy flips and such (which I cannot yet really control - I can start a flip/roll, but coming out of it without crashing is tricky)
I also have my Atom still sitting mostly assembled, just need to do some soldering and can get started on trying it out - though I think I should learn how to better control the tinywhoop with its cheap replacement parts before I start flying this much speedier guy outside.

So a funny story. I took my larger drone out the other day because my Sister and Nephew wanted to see it. I should had know better. I started flying it, then got a little cocky and got it higher. Well it must had caught a wind gust up there and it kept rising higher and higher and kept getting farther and farther away because the wind kept carrying it away. Next thing I know it just drops out of the sky. I kinda estimated in my head where it went down at, so I drove my car over there and started looking for it, but couldn't find it. I tried my controller hoping for something. After about 15 minutes I basically give up. Next thing I see is this white thing rising from someones yard. I left the throttle up on the controller in my seat. Then it crashed but at least I knew where it was at, so I ran down there and picked it up. I lost a small little piece of plastic off of one of the flashing leds, but besides that it's ok. I really lucked out. So moral of the story unless you got some big powerful props, stay out of the wind.
